Sustainability Statement

Statement, June 2026

With only one planet, we must do more to protect and preserve it. DTEK ensures compliance with applicable regulations and takes proactive steps to prevent environmental harm and pollution, using resources efficiently, and conserving ecosystems.

Our key priorities:

  • Climate: We aim for a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and 25% in Scope 3 by 2035, on a pathway to net zero by 2050.
  • Air quality: We are actively striving to enhance air quality and reduce emissions through lab testing, assessment of waste disposal sites, and regular testing of purification equipment.
  • Environmental management system (EMS): We apply a set of principles and methodologies outlined in our Environmental Management System (EMS), which is aligned with ISO 14001:2015 standards. This approach supports continuous improvement in our environmental performance and ensures compliance with applicable environmental regulations.
  • Pollution prevention: We take measures to prevent pollution, reducing environmental impacts in our operations. We aim to control non-GHG pollutants alongside GHG emissions, complying with national and international standards.
  • Biodiversity conservation: We are dedicated to conserving biodiversity by conducting environmental impact assessments for new projects and implementing measures to protect local ecosystems (where applicable).
  • Water stewardship: We are committed to responsible water use. Our efforts focus on minimising water consumption and maintaining the purity of water supplies where we operate.
  • Waste management and resource efficiency:  We manage waste in line with international standards, aiming to reduce waste generation, enhance material recovery, minimise waste to landfill, and promote efficient resource use across our value chain.
  • Stakeholder engagement: We engage with stakeholders, including employees, local communities, investors, partners and civil society, to incorporate their insights into our environmental initiatives.
  • Compliance and governance: We operate in accordance with applicable environmental laws and regulations, supported by internal policies, controls, and oversight mechanisms to ensure accountability and compliance.
  • Performance monitoring and continuous improvement: We monitor environmental performance using defined indicators and seek continuous improvement through regular reviews and updates to our practices.

Decarbonisation statement

As a company involved in thermal power generation, mining and gas exploration and storage, we recognise the need and the responsibility to reduce our impact on the climate.

In 2026, we launched our Energy Transition Plan, setting out a clear and actionable pathway to decarbonise our business while supporting Ukraine’s energy security and recovery. Through this plan, we are committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2035, on a pathway to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Our approach focuses on phasing down coal, scaling renewable energy, modernising the grid and deploying lower‑carbon technologies. These priorities are underpinned by targets developed using Science Based Targets initiative guidance and are designed to support the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Through this transition, we aim to build a more resilient, flexible and low‑carbon energy system for Ukraine and the wider European region.

Water resources statement

As one of earth’s most precious resources, we take the stewardship and use of water seriously. DTEK’s efforts are focused on ensuring we use as little water as possible and that we maintain the purity of water supplies wherever we operate.

We ensure efficient operational processes to find ways to reduce our water use. We use advance sampling and laboratory testing to ensure waste water does not pollute local watercourses and we work in line with ISO 14001:2015 standards.

Biodiversity statement

We strive to ensure respect and protection for the flora and fauna around all DTEK sites. This includes managing existing assets in harmony with nature, carrying out biodiversity impact assessments for new developments and supporting schemes to enhance nature in communities near DTEK facilities.

Animal welfare statement

No animals are used in DTEK’s operations and we seek to minimise and eradicate any harm caused to animals through our supply chain.

Human rights statement

DTEK is committed to upholding and respecting the human rights of all individuals connected with the company. Human rights are integral to our Ethics and Business Code of Conduct. We recognise that our activities may have the potential to directly or indirectly impact human rights and we are committed to ensuring employees, customers, suppliers, and local communities are respected.

DTEK is developing a human rights programme founded on the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international documents related to human rights’ protection. The programme will seek to identify, prevent, mitigate and account for any potential human rights impacts connected to our activities.
