DTEK is collaborating with Fluence Energy B.V., a global leader in intelligent energy storage, to develop Ukraine’s first large-scale battery-based energy storage portfolio. This initiative aims to bolster the country’s energy independence, stabilise the power supply, and expedite its transition to renewable energy sources.
The project involves the installation of six energy storage plants at various locations throughout Ukraine, each with capacities between 20 MW and 50 MW, leading to a total combined capacity of 200 MW and an overall storage capability of 400 MWh. This infrastructure will be capable of supplying electricity to 600,000 homes for up to two hours, equivalent to approximately half the households in Kyiv.
DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko on his LinkedIn:
"A step forward for Ukraine's energy security today: I'm excited to announce DTEK has chosen Fluence to deliver a fleet of six new high-tech battery storage facilities across the country. When they come online later this year, they will significantly enhance the stability of the power grid, storing enough short-term power for 600,000 Ukrainian homes. That will make it the largest operational energy storage portfolio in Eastern Europe. A powerful partnership.
"Thank you to the team at Fluence and DTEK Renewables who are making this a reality. It’s another way we are leading the way into a new energy future for Ukraine."
DTEK Renewables has issued carbon credits, marking a significant step in its commitment to advancing its sustainable development goals, supporting global carbon reduction efforts.
The credits offer businesses a practical way to reduce their carbon footprint in the production while contributing to the development of renewable energy in Ukraine.
DRI, DTEK’s EU renewables arm, has taken another significant step in the development of renewable energy in Romania with the connection to the grid of the Glodeni II solar park and the start of energy delivery to the national transmission system operator, meaning it now has three operational projects, taking its total operational capacity to 173MW.
