DTEK Renewables has issued carbon credits, marking a significant step in its commitment to advancing its sustainable development goals, supporting global carbon reduction effots.
The credits offer businesses a practical way to reduce their carbon footprint in the production while contributing to the development of renewable energy in Ukraine.
DTEK Renewables CEO Oleksandr Selyshchev said: “We have recently issued our first guarantees of origin that can be purchased by Ukrainian businesses. Now, by issuing carbon credits, we are expanding to the international level and inviting foreign businesses to support the renewal of Ukraine's energy sector. Proceeds from the sale of these carbon credits will go directly to the development of renewable energy capacities.”
One of the company's facilities, a solar farm in Nikopolska, Ukraine, has received certification to issue carbon credits from the International Carbon Registry (Iceland). According to the registry's methodology, 1 carbon credit in Ukraine represents a reduction of 1 tonne of CO2 emissions through the production of 1.56 MWh of renewable energy.
Between 2019-2023, the ‘clean’ electricity generated by the company enabled a reduction of CO2 emissions totalling 880,000 tonnes.
