About the project
DTEK, in partnership with global technology leader Fluence, has built Ukraine's largest battery energy storage system (BESS) – 200 MW across six strategic locations.
Built in just six months rather than the typical 18-24 months, this €125 million project showcases Ukraine's capacity to execute innovative energy infrastructure amid war, providing the critical foundation for grid resilience through successful international collaboration.
The 400 MWh storage capacity can power the equivalent of 600,000 Ukrainian homes for two hours – equivalent to half of Kyiv's households –whilst providing millisecond response times for frequency stabilisation that conventional power plants cannot match.
DTEK shareholder Rinat Akhmetov shares his thoughts on the launch of Ukraine's largest battery storage system and our united commitment to building energy infrastructure even under wartime conditions.
