DTEK and Naftogaz of Ukraine hosted the fourth annual Ukrainian Energy Roundtable focused on moving Ukraine from wartime resilience to long-term economic recovery and growth on the margins of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.
The discussion took place as overnight russian strikes targeted energy infrastructure in Kyiv and other cities, cutting power, water and heat to more than one million people during sub-zero temperatures.
The roundtable brought together Ukrainian government representatives, international investors, partners and business leaders. It was co-hosted by DTEK CEO, Maxim Timchenko and Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi, moderated by Chrystia Freeland, Advisor to the President, Office of the President of Ukraine.
Speakers focused on how Ukraine can transform resilience into growth, strengthening energy security and unlocking private capital to support recovery and growth even while under attack.
Speaking on the latest situation in Ukraine and how DTEK is rebuilding, Mr. Timchenko said: "We went through three winters and we will go through this winter. But every winter becomes more and more difficult for us. We need to build more distributed generation, with more protection, more technical solutions. We should get away from centralised supply for electricity and heating."
He also stressed that energy is not only vital for survival, but central to Ukraine’s economy and future role as a reliable energy partner for Europe.
