The global exhibition Expo 2020 is a unique trailblazing world-wide event showcasing the latest technologies and innovations. The event brings together managers, academics, thinkers, and dreamers from around the globe to envision the better world we are building together and demonstrate humanity’s best achievements and share ideas.
The global exhibition began on 1 October 2021 in Dubai and will run until 31 March 2022. It brings together 192 countries, including Ukraine. The key topic is ‘Connecting Minds and Creating the Future’, with ‘Opportunity’, ‘Sustainability’, and ‘Mobility’ as sub-topics, which are today’s three most important driving forces.
The countries participating in Dubai Expo built breath-taking pavilions demonstrating their unique culture and national identity as well as their economic and R&D potential. It was the first time Ukraine built its own platform which premiered during Energy Week as the world was going through a particularly poignant moment in energy transition. DTEK joined the Ukrainian delegation at Expo 2020.
DTEK’s goal at Dubai Expo 2020 is to prove transforming the energy sector is critical to ensuring the sustainable development of the world’s economies as well as a safe, clean environment for our children. Also, to show that Ukraine is in sync with the world on the path towards decarbonisation.
“Right now, DTEK is undergoing transformation, moving away from conventional energy towards innovative energy from the sun and wind. Plus, to a certain extent, Expo 2020 is about clean renewable energy sources and technologies enabling a clean, zero carbon footprint. That’s our goal, too! We want to bring to Ukraine foreign investment in clean energy. And we are showing that we can implement these projects. Sustainable development is the future. Without sustainable development, we will not be able to say that in 10–20 years our children will be able to live in a clean environment,” explained Dmytro Sakharuk.
The Ukrainian energy utility’s participation in the Dubai Expo began with a visit from the participants of Energy of Innovation: Executive MBA – the Academy DTEK’s international training programme. When the exhibition was being erected, the programme participants were given an opportunity to walk around the innovation city and gain international companies’ experience.
The Ukrainian-Emirati Business Forum took place on 4 October at Expo 2020 Dubai as part of Ukraine’s National Day. The event’s speakers included Dmytro Sakharuk, DTEK’s Executive Director, and Emanuele Volpe, DTEK’s Chief Innovation Officer. The subject-based sessions of the business forum focused on the energy sector’s challenges and innovations related to one of the key sub-topics of EXPO 2020: sustainable development of society.
“We are proud that Ukrainian companies, for the first time, are representing our country in their own separate pavilion. During the Ukrainian-Emirati Forum, DTEK as an innovative leader in the energy sector, shared how we work with new exponential and disruptive technologies to cultivate a supportive ecosystem. The Innovation DTEK team is planning many activities within Expo 2020 Dubai,” said Emanuele Volpe.
Note that during the six months, Dubai Expo will hold theme weeks to discuss today’s most important challenges and opportunities. Expo 2020 promises to be a window into the world of the future!
