A photo exhibition about electricity and people who produce it opened in Kyiv

"Transforming Energy", a photo exhibition of British photographer Vincent Mundy, opened in Kyiv.  The photos are on display at "Leonardo" Business Centre until 25 February 2017. The exhibition is also held in seven other cities of Ukraine where DTEK company that initiated this project operates.

According to DTEK Corporate Communications Director Ms I. Kovalchuk, it is rather difficult to explain the entire process of electricity delivery in a simple and concise way, thus, the idea of a photo project emerged to show the whole chain of electricity delivery up to a socket.

"In the photos we can show how the conventional energy sector is being transformed into a modern and innovative one," said Ms Kovalchuk. "The main focus is on our employees, because, as you know, machinery is useless without people to operate it. Here you can see how people create energy: from mining coal and gas to a complicated process of electricity generation. By the way, our employees have made rather useful comments to each photo so the exhibition is also rather informative."

Two months of shooting were rather busy for both the workers and photographer Vincent Mundy, who specializes in shooting of industrial facilities. The naturalness of his works is so much impressive. The focus on the energy sector is not very popular among photographers, yet, Mr Mundy has his own style: he tries to show complicated production processes in an engaging and straightforward manner.  "I often shoot large production facilities so for me it is exciting to see energy businesses from inside", said Mr Mundy. "They are impressive! At coal mines, power plants there are a lot of big facilities next to which people appear to be so small, and at first sight, their role is not very prominent. Yet, when you see each of these people at their workplace, controlling complicated processes of electricity generation or gas production you understand the real value of their labour."
