A serving DTEK miner and his retired colleague were killed in a russian drone attack in Dnipropetrovsk region on Wednesday after both rushing to help the victims of a strike moments earlier.
The early morning attack, in a residential area of Ternivka, also injured three residents.
Vitaliy Korotych, 43, a DTEK miner with 23 years’ experience at the Ternivske Mine Group was killed alongside Valeriy Kalinevych, 50, a retired miner, who had worked at DTEK’s ‘Heroes of Space’ Mine his entire his career.
Colleagues describe Vitaliy as a calm and reliable team member who was dedicated to his family. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
Valeriy retired after a lifetime in mining and was known as a mentor who trained numerous young miners and helped new employees integrate into the workforce.
DTEK extends its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of our colleagues.
