russia launched attacks that cut power to multiple coal mines in Ukraine’s eastern Dnipropetrovsk region on Thursday, forcing the evacuation of thousands of workers.
At the time of the strike, 2,595 workers were underground. Mine management immediately initiated evacuation procedures to bring all personnel to the surface. Two mines have so far completed the evacuation, with operations to bring all miners to the surface continuing at the remaining sites.
Medical staff are examining all miners as they reach the surface. No injuries or health complaints have been reported to date.
DTEK cannot identify the location of the affected mines for security reasons.
