russia launched one of its biggest ever attacks on Ukraine’s energy systems on Friday, including the specific targeting of DTEK thermal power plants.
Preliminary assessments indicate significant damage to equipment, though critically no casualties were reported. Since the attack, DTEK workers have been assessing the extent of any damage and have begun the work off restoring operational capacity.
Friday’s assault is the 12th wave of missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian energy since March this year and the 9th direct attack on DTEK's power stations.
President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on X that Ukrainian forces had shot down 81 of the 93 missiles fired by russia. Nearly 200 drones were also used in the attack, he said.
DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko stated on his LinkedIn account:
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, DTEK thermal power plants have endured over 200 missiles, drone and artillery strikes.
