CEO of DTEK Maxim Timchenko and more than 1,000 CEOs from 100 countries signed a Statement from Business Leaders for Renewed Global Cooperation in support of the United Nations and its main goals: peace and security, human rights and development. The statement was presented to the UN Secretary-General at the UN Private Sector Forum, which was held as part of the 75th anniversary of the organisation.
Reflecting upon the importance of business engagement, the UN Global Compact released a Statement from Business Leaders for Renewed Global Cooperation. The statement was largely based on interviews with representatives from 40 major companies. The representatives emphasised that progress can only be made if accountability, integrity and transparency in public and private institutions are treated as a priority. Many of the business leaders interviewed expressed their belief that this statement, calling for renewed global cooperation, comes at a particularly relevant time as the world not only deals with a global pandemic but other converging crises, including social injustice, economic uncertainty and climate change.
“Today it is really important to unite efforts at all levels - local and global, public and private sector, local communities and non-governmental organizations – to implement the transition to economic models based on sustainable development. By signing the statement from Business Leaders for Renewed Global Cooperation, we are underscoring our commitment to sustainable development. DTEK's long-term ESG strategy, which is built on principles consistent with the interests of society, has become an effective step for DTEK to achieve them”, said CEO of DTEK Maxim Timchenko.
DTEK follows the principles of sustainable development and has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2007.
