DTEK Dnipro Grids is modernizing a large high-voltage substation in Dnipro that powers part of the Left bank of the city and constructing a new underground 150 kV cable line for the following districts: Substation, Topolia, and Sokil. Energy workers will complete the work by the end of the year. Implementation of projects will help improve the reliability of power supply to more than 83,000 families and 100 socially essential facilities. Despite the war in the country, DTEK continues to invest funds in developing the electrical infrastructure in Dnipro and the region and preparing the region for winter.

DTEK energy workers have replaced electrical equipment at the high-voltage substation on the Left bank of Dnipro with modern and more powerful ones. They have upgraded power transformers that exceeded their service life and were morally and physically obsolete. Besides, they have installed a new housing module of the enclosed-type cubicle switchboard for electricity distribution in the 35 and 6 kV grids, replaced old oil circuit breakers with more environmentally-friendly – vacuum ones, reconstructed the remote signaling system, relay protection, etc.

“DTEK Grids is creating an infrastructure for rebuilding Ukraine and recovering the economy. We are developing smart grids to be used as a foundation for the resurrection of Ukrainian cities – new, modern, “smart.” Thanks to the modernization of the substation before winter, DTEK Dnipro Grids reduced emergency risks and improved the reliability of the grid that powers 16 schools, kindergartens, and other social facilities, as well as homes of 3,600 families on the Left bank of Dnipro and in two nearby villages,” – emphasized Andrii Tereshchuk. CEO at DTEK Dnipro Grids.

Upgrades are ongoing in the right-bank part of the city, as well. Thus, construction of modern underground lines in the Substation district, Topolia, and Sokil residential communities will be completed by the end of the year. It will replace an old overhead high-voltage line. It is more reliable and safer, especially in cold weather and shelling threats. Overall, more than 32 km of cable made of cross-linked polyethylene will be laid underground. Its advantage is a service life of 50 years and a more reliable power supply for almost 80,000 families. Besides, it will allow the city to free more than 29 ha of land, use of which was previously limited due to the security zone of the high-voltage overhead lines.

Modernization of the substation and construction of the line were carried out with the funds of the company’s Investment program. The overall scope of investments in upgrades was almost 380 million UAH.
