The leading annual gathering of the energy industry, the Aurora Spring Forum 2022 discusses the state of the energy transition globally in the context of russia’s war in Ukraine and the long-term security and affordability of energy in Europe.

The key topic is «Delivering the energy transition in a fractured world: Navigating price volatility, geopolitical risk, and supply chain disruption». The energy transition faces a perilous moment now. The following topics will be discussed:

  • First, the abrupt closure of the global economy stifled investment in swathes of the supply chain – notably in metals, fossil fuels and transport capacity – which has left substantial shortfalls and bottlenecks upon reopening. Strikingly, the cost of batteries and solar cells are up 30%, against a backdrop of rapidly falling price over the past decade.
  • Second, enormously accommodative monetary and fiscal policy – especially in the USA - has created a macroeconomic environment of stagflation that is blunting investment signals and may well presage a higher interest rate environment.
  • Third, geopolitical conflict has boiled over into war in Europe and the supply of energy is being wielded as among russia’s most potent weapons.

Maxim Timchenko will speak during the session «Fireside Chat: Opportunities for a Ukrainian-EU energy future».

The Aurora Spring Forum 2022  will take place on July 14.
