The russian federation has carried out a cyber attack on DTEK Group's IT infrastructure.
The attackers' goal was to destabilise the technological processes at power generating and distribution companies and undermine Ukraine's energy security as well as to spread deliberately false information about the companies' operation through state propaganda agencies and as a result leave Ukrainian consumers without power.
It was at the same time as a terrorist missile attack on the Kryvorizka TPP took place that another attempt was witnessed to attack the company's digital infrastructure.
This is not the first large-scale attempt by hostile cybercriminals to interfere with the operation of the Ukrainian power system. In 2016, a similar attack led to the operation of the power system and some power distribution companies being destabilised.
In March of this year, we registered a significant spike in the enemy's cyber activities while we were actively promoting the Stop Bloody Energy project. This initiative was actively supported by the society and the global cyber community. As a result of the Stop Bloody Energy project, many large investors have withdrawn from the aggressor's energy projects.
The enemy's special focus on actively attacking DTEK's facilities can be explained by the firm and proactive position taken by the company's shareholder Rinat Akhmetov with regards to russia's barbaric war against Ukraine and massive assistance provided to the Ukrainian army and support to Ukrainians.
DTEK works with the state authorities and international partners, investigates hostile cybercriminals' actions and helps strengthen the country's IT security with its findings and experience.
The company makes every effort to ensure a stable operation of Ukraine's power system during the war and guarantee uninterrupted electricity supply to Ukrainian consumers.
