The second stream of the flagship program "Energy of Innovation: Executive MBA" BY Academy DTEK has started. The first module was held from 4th till 7th of November in a mixed format (the so-called liquid learning - when some teachers and participants are in the classroom, and the other - on the other side of the screen). These were 4 days full of knowledge, emotions, insights and reflections: 34 managers-participants were inspired to search for blue oceans and implement breakthrough projects.
The key goal of the module is to give an understanding of directions of modern trends in economics and business, to form a positive attitude towards changes as opportunities and to show options for creating breakthrough innovations through non-destructive creativity.
The first day of the module was started by Dmitry Sakharuk, Executive Director of DTEK, General Director of DTEK Energy, delving into the trends and challenges of the energy industry. Dmitry noted that 3D processes: decarbonization, digitalization and decentralization are inevitable in the transformation of both the company and the entire industry and following the sustainable development strategy and ESG principles is an important part of DTEK's development. Pavel Livertovsky, Deputy Director for Strategy and Finance at DTEK, in turn focused on the strategy of the company, each business in particular and the drivers of their growth.
As one of the key management theorists and prominent business thinker of XX century, Peter Drucker said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast,” and which culture does not eat a good strategy for breakfast? This, as well as the strategy and business model as a tool for creating value, a matrix of values, managing value creation and introducing strategic optionality and a culture of effective management, were discussed with Professor Vladislav Beloshapka, Doctor of Economics and the author of the modern theory of managerial performance.
The constant struggle for various resources generates competition, which, in turn, is the main engine of progress. To ensure effective struggle, the company must carry out a thorough analysis of competitors, analysis of its strengths and weaknesses, highlight its own competitive advantages and develop an action plan to win the market. Thus, the company faces the question of creating a competitive strategy. Real cases shared with the participants representatives and practitioners from business:
- • Dmitry Borisov, a famous Ukrainian restaurateur, founder and owner of the Dmitry Borisov Family of Restaurants chain, which has more than 50 establishments.
- • Marina Avdeeva, co-owner of the insurance company Arsenal Insurance.
And doctor of economic sciences and professor at Lviv University, politician and economist, Viktor Pynzenyk immersed the participants in specifics of Ukrainian economy, the "traffic lights" of its behavior and individual business entities. Victor shared his thoughts on cooperation between business and government and the role of an entrepreneur as a driving force for development and transformation.
The last day of the module was devoted to business innovations and began with a discussion about the essence of innovation. For example, INSEAD professor Andrew Shipilov, using the example of two types of innovations - sustaining and disruptive in business, compared them with a music concert and an orchestra and showed who the client is, what is the role of the conductor and where innovations are in both cases.
Alina Tokmilenko, COO of Promprylad.Renovation, spoke about the synergy of innovative approaches of the new economy and urbanism, contemporary art and education and the Impact Investment concept. A striking example of the organization of the blue ocean in Ukraine is the Ukrainian Academy of Leadership, because “Value innovations are designed to expand the field of vision, create new markets, and not compete in existing ones. The basis for such work is humanity, confidence and creative competence, because values are a tool for the consolidation of society”- said Roman Tichkivskyi, CEO of the Academy.
“At the end of the day, innovation is about people, not technology,” - concluded Emanuele Volpe, Director of DTEK Innovations. Emanuele spoke about why we consider DTEK to be an innovative company, whether innovations are an element of psychology and how we can influence the fact that starting from the company we can make Ukraine innovative.
The first module of the Energy of Innovation program ended with a team discussion of innovative projects for business and reflection together with the Rector of the DTEK Academy Valeria Zabolotnaya and the head of long-term development programs of the DTEK Academy Maryana Khomitskaya.
"Energy of Innovation" is a practical EMBA-program of management level by Academy DTEK.
