DTEK has started reviewing the results of the "Your Hometown Begins with You" project and will continue announcing winning projects through September.
In 2021, 32 communities from 11 regions of Ukraine took part in the competition. The company received 667 applications, from which project commissions in each community are now selecting and announcing winners. Project volunteers will receive a financial grant from DTEK to implement their winning designs.
The winners include initiatives in social services, environment protection and energy savings, health care, sports and urban development, as well as inter-community cooperation.
In 2021, the competition emphasized the creation of a barrier-free environment, inclusive in a broad sense. The "Your Hometown Begins with You" project was transformed after DTEK joined the First Lady's Business Without Barriers initiative. Sixty percent of the programs and initiatives submitted to the competition were based on the BWB’s barrier-free principles.
“Our initiative gives impetus to the development of cities and regions where DTEK Group companies operate. The "Your Hometown Begins with You" project helps volunteers who want to improve life in their communities,” said Olena Semich, DTEK's Chief Officer of Human Resources, Social Development, and Environment. Based on Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance principles (ESGs) and meeting UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the community ventures involve residents solving problems locally by helping to construct efficient and modern infrastructure, facilitating innovation in education and health care, and promoting energy efficiency and the barrier-free and inclusive principles.
The "Your Hometown Begins with You" is an important DTEK social project helping businesses become pro-active corporate citizens, organize public spaces in partnership with communities, implement cultural and social initiatives, and create a comfortable living environment.
The "Your Hometown Begins with You" project has existed since 2013 in the regions where DTEK Energy is represented. This year, the initiative was also supported by DTEK Oil&Gas and DTEK Renewables.
