russia attacked thermal power stations operated by DTEK on Tuesday morning, marking the seventh large-scale strike on the company's facilities since October and as overnight temperatures dropped below freezing across Ukraine.
No casualties were reported in the latest attack, though equipment at the thermal power plants sustained damage. Energy workers began restoration work immediately after the strikes ended, coordinating their response with national grid operator Ukrenergo.
The timing of the assault – two days before Christmas and during the first sustained cold snap of winter – underscores russia's cynical strategy of targeting civilian energy infrastructure as temperatures fall.
Since russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022, the DTEK's thermal power plants have been hit more than 220 times. These attacks have killed four power station workers and wounded 59.
The identify of the power station cannot be named for security reasons.
