DTEK opens up development opportunities for talented youth. Thus, the new team of DTEK's Youth Movement joined the second-wave programme of Young SDG Innovators under the UN Global Compact in Ukraine. The team has to take a training course and develop a project aimed at promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the country. It should be reminded that 12 SDGs were integrated into the ESG Strategy that DTEK is committed to implement by 2030.
Young innovators will work under the guidance of international experts and specialists engaged by the UN Global Compact. The project that they are going to develop and implement within 10 months should be a brand new initiative for Ukraine, being carried out on a large scale and creating financial and non-financial benefits for the business and the society. The key requirement is that at least one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Global Compact should be achieved.
In an effort to build a team to participate in the Young SDG Innovators 2021 programme, DTEK's Youth Movement joined forces with the Innovation Division.
"I am glad that DTEK's youth is taking part in this project", said Emanuele Volpe, Chief Innovation Officer DTEK. "Our Company is striving to stay ahead of times by employing cutting-edge technology in its operation. This is a prerequisite to lead in the energy market. What is important is that the innovations come to life at the production companies, authored by people who are directly engaged in the production processes and live in the industrial monocities. They know the company from the inside and are willing to change Ukraine for the better for themselves and their children".
In the Young SDG Innovators project, DTEK will be represented by young innovators who submitted their applications and passed the selection: Yevhen Benishyn, a machine builder at Corum Miner's Light factory, Vadym Pedosenko, a coal processor at the Pavlogradska Coal Processing Plant, and Vitaliy Opryshko, employed by DTEK's Innovation Division. Coordination of the team's work will be carried out by Dmytro Savostianov of the Luhanska TPP, who participated in the project's first wave last year. At that time DTEK Energy's youth team developed a series of interactive lessons for pupils related to the UN Global Compact's Sustainable Development Goals - #BeEcoSmart, which were taken by around 15 thousand teenagers across Ukraine.
"Last year our project was focused on environmental and social issues", told Dmytro Savostianov. "And now we would like to be even more vocal and tell the public about DTEK, the company we are working for, which has been doing so much for Ukraine's people and image. In our work, we will try to leverage the experience gained during the first wave and eradicate potential risks in advance".
"I am very happy that our team will again participate in the Young SDG Innovators", commented Yevhenia Volkova, leader of DTEK Energy's Youth Movement. "This year we organised a thorough selection among participants DTEK's Youth Movement and ID.Community. This was quite a pleasant surprise for me to see the number of submitted applications. I am proud that a major part of the innovators' team are participants of DTEK Energy's Youth Movement. I wish the guys inspiration and strength for the next 10 months of serious fruitful work".
The Young SDG Innovators Programme launched by the UN Global Compact in Ukraine will include representatives from 10 major Ukrainian companies which are ready to themselves and the world for the better. The participants will focus on finding ways to help solve relevant challenges in their own companies using innovations and the Sustainable Development Goals. The first module is due to start on 23 February. The programme's results are scheduled to be announced in late 2021.
