In 2023, DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators connected over 1,100 new renewable energy facilities

Over the 11 months of 2023, DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators connected 1,150 green generation facilities – solar and wind power plants – to the grids. The total capacity of the connected facilities is 112.3 MW. Independent renewables help decentralize and improve the efficiency and resilience of Ukraine's energy system during the brutal winter.

After russia's attacks on the energy system in 2022-2023, importance of small independent renewable energy facilities increased tremendously. Having as many solar and wind power plants as possible will contribute to a more energy-independent and flexible Ukrainian energy system. DTEK Grids helps create conditions in Ukraine for the growth in independent renewables – the company's distribution system operators connect such facilities to the grid. Each new connected green generation facility contributes to the passing of the difficult winter and the transformation of the Ukrainian energy industry in the near future.

"According to the government plan (https://www.mev.gov.ua/reforma/enerhetychna-stratehiya) for the Ukrainian energy industry transformation, the capacity of solar and wind power plants in Ukraine should increase significantly by 2050. Increasing volumes of green generation is possible because thousands of Ukrainian businesses and households install solar panels and wind turbines at their facilities while Distribution System Operators connect them to the grids. Therefore, the grids must be physically ready for it, considering the increased load on them. The infrastructure of the grids must ensure integration of renewables and create conditions for the development of prosumers*," - underscored DTEK Grids CEO Oleksandr Fomenko. –This significantly changes the role of the grids. Its infrastructure requires large-scale modernization and constant improvement. This is the path the world is taking, and DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators are taking this path in Ukraine. Despite the war and focus of all the company's efforts on restoring what was destroyed by the enemy, we continue our grid development projects, which will allow connecting and using green energy facilities. Our task is to create conditions for connection of such facilities and ensure reliable power supply, build a reliable, flexible and efficient infrastructure of the grids to recover and develop towns and regions."

Over the 11 months of 2023, DTEK Grids connected the most significant number of green generation facilities in the Kyiv region – 539 solar power plants with a total capacity of 12.3 MW. However, the highest figure of total green capacity is in the Odesa region, where DTEK connected 236 solar power plants since the beginning of 2023 and increased capacity of previously built wind generation, connecting a total of 65.9 MW over the year. 32.4 MW, which will produce 298 new solar power plants, was connected in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Despite active hostilities in the Donetsk region, DTEK Donetsk Grids energy workers connected 43 solar and one wind power plant with a total capacity of 1.2 MW. 33 solar power plants with total capacity of 0.4 MW were connected in Kyiv.

Since the beginning of business activity in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk regions, and in the city of Kyiv, DTEK Grids Distribution System Operators have already connected a total of 16,136 green generation facilities with a total capacity of 1,896.3 MW to the grids. For instance, this capacity is enough to provide the capital of Ukraine and the entire Kyiv region with electricity.
