DTEK Renewables and Fluence representatives during practical energy storage system management training

In the fall of 2025, DTEK Renewables and Fluence plan to put six energy storage systems into operation in Ukraine with a total capacity of 200 MW. To ensure the project’s effective implementation and the successful operation of these "industrial batteries" DTEK Renewables personnel underwent specialized training on Fluence-manufactured equipment.

Over 20 of the company’s highly qualified specialists completed Fluence’s energy storage system training abroad, acquiring essential knowledge and skills in installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

The training consisted of several modules, each combining theoretical and practical components: equipment installation, commissioning procedures, and fault detection and resolution.

The instructors were certified professionals and experts from Fluence with extensive hands-on experience in energy storage system operations.

"The adoption of new technologies, such as energy storage systems, requires correspondingly high expertise from specialists who will not only build them but also maintain these systems in the future. DTEK Renewables, together with Fluence, has ensured a high level of training for our team," emphasized Oleksandr Selyshchev, CEO of DTEK Renewables. "The unique knowledge and experience shared by our partner Fluence will be invaluable during the construction and operation of energy storage systems in Ukraine. This is a great example of successful international business partnership."

The theoretical part of the training was conducted at  Fluence’sTesting Centre in Erlangen, Germany. . After completing each module, specialists underwent final assessments, received relevant certifications, and only then proceeded to the practical part of the training.

“We are very impressed with the knowledge, performance, and outlook of DTEK’s world-class team of experts who we proudly trained on our existing European project sites and in our German Testing Centre. Together, we continue our work on transforming the way we power our world and to help increase energy security in Ukraine,” said Julian Jansen, Fluence Managing Director for Growing Markets.

Hands-on training took place at a construction site where Fluence’s energy storage systems are currently being installed. The final module was held at similar operational facilities.

"Beyond preparing construction sites for equipment delivery, inspection, installation, and commissioning, effective energy storage system (ESS) management is a critical aspect. That’s why our colleagues from Wind Tech, as well as engineering and operations specialists at DTEK Renewables, underwent this specialized training. Technical personnel gained knowledge that will help them efficiently manage ESS, respond to emergencies, and resolve potential malfunctions. The training was conducted on the same equipment that will soon be installed at our sites in Ukraine," said Mykhailo Kolesnikov, Capital Construction Project Manager at DTEK Renewables.

Following the training, Fluence will provide online support during the projects commissioning phase, including remote monitoring, diagnostics, and equipment testing.

The company prioritizes the quality and expertise of its specialists, placing special emphasis on developing new skills and competencies. This enables DTEK Renewables to expand its range of services in Ukraine’s renewable energy market.

It should be noted that the construction of 200 MW energy storage systems will enable the provision of frequency and power balancing services to stabilize Ukraine’s energy grid. The project includes six "industrial batteries" across different regions of Ukraine.
