DTEK's Advisory Council has met with Ukraine's Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk and international diplomatic representatives in Kyiv to discuss the country's energy investment opportunities.
Council members Pascal Lamy (former Director General of the World Trade Organization, 2005-2013), Anders Aslund (Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University), Raffaele Trombetta (former Ambassador of Italy to the United Kingdom, 2018–2022), Matsuda Kuninori (former Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, 2021-2024) and Victoria Cochrane, (Chair of Audit Committee at Euroclear Bank) met with Minister Grynchuk to discuss how to super-charge energy investments into Ukraine.
Advisory Council members later joined discussions with DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko and international ambassadors Katarína Mathernová (Ambassador of the EU to Ukraine), Masashi Nakagome (Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine), Carlo Formosa, (Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine), Gaël Veyssière, (Ambassador of France to Ukraine) and Maximilian Rasch (Chargé d'Affaires at the German Embassy) .
The diplomatic session focused on three strategic priorities for Ukraine's energy sector reconstruction:
- Identifying concrete investment opportunities for international businesses
- Establishing practical financial mechanisms to realise these projects
- Accelerating Ukraine's economic development through energy sector partnerships
Discussions highlighted that the reconstruction of Ukraine's energy sector represents one of Europe's most significant investment opportunities. Advisory Council members presented insights on renewable energy, grid modernisation, and energy storage projects as key areas for international partnership and investment.
"Strategic partnerships can deliver both commercial returns and sustainable energy security," DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko told the group, pointing to DTEK's portfolio across wind, battery storage, grid modernisation and gas projects.
The Advisory Council meetings also included contributions from Kurt Volker, Former US Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations and Distinguished Fellow at CEPA; Miroslav Lajcak, DTEK High-level Advisor in Brussels and former EU's Chief Negotiator for the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement; and Geoffrey Pyatt, Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources, U.S. Department of State (2022-2025).
Advisory Council members emphasised that investment flows heavily relied on establishing proper reform frameworks that ensured competition, maximum transparency and robust anti-corruption mechanisms.
