DRI brings online Glodeni II, its second solar park in Romania and third project in the country

DRI, DTEK`s EU renewables arm, has taken another significant step in the development of renewable energy in Romania with the connection to the grid of the Glodeni II solar park and the start of energy delivery to the national transmission system operator, meaning it now has three operational projects, taking its total operational capacity to 173MW.

The solar park Glodeni II is located in Mureș County, it has a capacity of 60MWp and an estimated annual production of 86.4 GWh, enough to power more than 22,400 homes* reducing carbon emissions by 21,800 tonnes** per year. Glodeni II is DRI’s second solar park in Romania and combined with DRI’s 53MWp Glodeni I, is one of the largest solar parks in the country.

DRI will sell 62% of the energy produced by Glodeni I and Glodeni II solar plants to OMV Petrom S.A., the largest integrated energy producer in Southeastern Europe, as part of Romania’s largest physical solar power purchase agreement (“PPA”) signed last December. DRI is open to further discussions with potential offtakers on how to be their renewable energy partner.

Ivan Geliukh, CEO of DRI, said: “2025 begins with a major success for DRI as we saw our third project, Glodeni II, becoming operational. The construction of this project was entirely managed by DRI’s in-house team of experts, showcasing our ability to move at pace and add real value through our extensive engineering, supply chain and construction management experience. This important achievement would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of all our partners, specifically our contractors and the National Transmission and Distribution Operators.”

Geliukh added: “Romania has set ambitious renewable energy targets and DRI is happy to contribute to the government’s goals and is quickly becoming one of the main investors in the country, where we are about to start the construction of an additional, third solar park in the Bucharest Region as well”.

Alongside, Glodeni I and II, in Romania DRI operates the 60MWp wind farm in Ruginoasa, Iași County, the first to be built in the country in a decade which became operational in December 2023. In addition to Ruginoasa, Glodeni I and Glodeni II, DRI is starting the construction of a fourth project in Romania , a 126MWp solar park in Văcărești, Dâmbovița County.

Across its priority markets, DRI now boasts a 1.4GW portfolio of operating projects, construction projects and others in various stages of development.
