Having accepted the January lockdown and the complete transition of all programs to online, we at the Academy DTEK always look for new opportunities for effective learning, quickly adapt to external changes and experiment with various online formats.
During the module, the participants had the opportunity to reflect a lot, delve into themselves, systematize, integrate and use the energy of the individual to understand and perceive themselves as leaders with a personal development map.
The post-covid world requires not only quick reactions to large-scale changes, but also strong personalities who are ready to take responsibility, uphold their own formed principles and values, and most important - care for others in complex contexts and circumstances. It is important to “find your voice and convey your truth,” whether it is the world, government, business, or your community.
The modern world also requires resilience of leaders. Thus, together with INSEAD professor Declan Fitzsimons, participants understood the aspects of sustainable leadership in difficult times of constant change and uncertainty. Declan noted that our whole life we live in 5 social systems:
- Work
- Family
- Self
- Society/Community
- Planet
In each of these systems, we can compose our own KPIs, and the interaction in them determines our principles, values, and us as individuals in general. How much we care about these systems and what contributions we can make defines us as leaders.
Participants went deep into themselves and were able to reflect on their own thoughts, actions and attitudes towards management and life in particular. They tried to hear themselves and their defensive reactions that prevents from learning, being ready for changes and changing themselves, their team, and moving the business as a whole.
It is critical for a modern leader to have a developed emotional intelligence, to listen and feel and reflect a lot. Pay attention not only to the external world, but also to personal internal transformations.
And Ekaterina Yasko, organizational psychologist, trainer for the development of emotional intelligence, trust, cooperation, effective communication, and peaceful resolution of conflicts in teams of organizations and educational institutions discussed the following questions with the participants:
- Why do we adults need to learn to communicate?
- What makes conversations difficult?
- What are the core skills of mindful communication and what is nonviolent communication?
Participants were inspired by the nonviolent communication process developed by Marshal Rosenberg in the 1970s and is used around the world in business and government to resolve conflicts at different levels. Therefore, an important part of nonviolent communication is empathy, where it is first important to try to see the world through the eyes of another person, to understand his feelings and only after that to convey his understanding of the situation.
