“Last year, DTEK ESCO already performed a project for us on technical re-equipment of our lighting system in the CEP main building. Replacement of 340 conventional lighting fixtures with LED ones and 6 km of cabling with new one resulted in over 90% economy on electric lighting and in three-fold improvement of lighting conditions at workplaces. This experience has inspired us to move further: there will be no more dark places at our enterprise. The plant workers’ labor must be safe,” said Nadiia Sudak, Director of DTEK Dobropilska CEP.
The significant changes are acclaimed by the plant workers.
Andzhela Kobets, Conveyor Machinist, DTEK Dobropilska CEP:
“Before the new lighting has been set, we had to use flashlights often for better overview and care of equipment. We are happy now that there’s no need for that any more. Thanks to new lighting ne can easily inspect any awkward places of a belt conveyor and do cleaning there. Now we have daylight at work levels which is crucial at dark hours.”
Nadiia Kiriienko, Conveyor Machinist, DTEK Dobropilska CEP:
“The new lamps in the bridge gallery No. 10 allow us to save energy while improving lighting quality. Fixtures installed before used to have short service life. We had to replace them almost every shift. Now, thanks to new LED lamps, I can be sure accepting my shift that I will be working all 12 hours in good light!”
“Electric lighting upgrades are beneficial in all aspects. We save power and money. Say, by replacing one 100 W incandescent fixture with a 15 W LED fixture we save 85 W of power. That’s 744.6 kWh annually. For every 1 kWh our enterprise pays 1.86 hryvnias. Hence, one LED fixture will be saving us 1,385 hryvnias per year.
Besides economy, we improve illuminance levels, hence, fewer accidents. We improve industrial safety: all new lamps are dust- and moisture-protected. LED lamps require no specific disposal like fluorescent ones do because of mercury content. The new lamps are long-lasting and will serve several years. Therefore, operational costs for replacement of lamps are reduced,” said Oleksandr Yarmolenko, Chief Power Engineer.
“We wanted to make the enterprise as bright as a day. But you cannot simply replace the lamps, do the so-called re-lamping. We approached the project comprehensively. We have completely redesigned the lighting system together with our contractors EA SOLUTIONS LLC and IntelTech Ukraine LLC: fixtures arrangement, light zones; internal power network loading was recalculated. As an energy service company we have funded 100% of project development and implementation costs. As a result, we have met the energy saving targets and improved comfort for the employees. We are implementing another similar project at DTEK Pavlogradska CCM: there will be 650 new LED fixtures there soon,” said Yevhen Bushma, Director of DTEK ESCO.
The project for overhaul of lighting at the conveyor galleries section at DTEK Dobropilska CEP has been implemented on terms of the 6-year energy service contract. During this period, the achieved savings will be split 75/25 between the ESCO investor and the customer. After expiration of the contract all new equipment and 100% of savings will be kept by the customer.
