DTEK took part in the UN Global Compact’s ‘Leaders Summit’, a high-level business event, on the 15 and 16 June. The conference brought together over 25,000 leading figures from civil society, governments and business. This year's summit was dedicated to outlining the strategic collective action needed to address the climate crisis, global pandemic, social and economic inequality and corruption.
DTEK Executive Director Dmytro Sakharuk participated in the session, ‘Using innovations to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs in Eastern Europe’.
“We fully share the goals of the European Green Deal and understand that decarbonisation is not a fashion trend, but a long-term necessity. That is why we have set ourselves the ambitious goal of being a carbon neutral company by 2040 in our corporate strategy. This goal cannot be achieved without innovation and new technologies. In search of novel disruptive technologies, we are working to establish new ecosystems between different collaborators to spur innovative products and solutions. We believe that partnerships allow businesses to expand their boundaries and improve their innovation, which is why DTEK cooperates with startups both in Ukraine and abroad. In 2020 alone, we considered more than 900 proposals, of which 16 were selected for pilot projects, said Dmytro Sakharuk.
He added, “both team cohesion and high professionalism play a special role in achieving this goal. Therefore, DTEK continues to invest in employee training, and its corporate university Academy DTEK creates programs using best practice from the world of academia".
In 2020, DTEK launched a long-term development strategy based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and in line with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles. It takes into account the main elements of the green transition and reflects the mission of business - to work for the progress and prosperity of society.
