Christmas Day attack: russia fires missiles against DTEK power stations in 10th attack of year
  • Power outages reported across large areas of Ukraine
  • DTEK teams assessing damage and working to restore power
  • 13th massive attack on Ukrainian energy system this year, 10th against DTEK power stations
  • Tragically, updated information reveals that Dmytro Petlenko, a power engineer and boiler-turbine department patrolman at one of DTEK’s thermal power plants, was killed during this morning’s attacks.

russia fired missiles against DTEK power stations in a cynical Christmas Day attack on Wednesday, causing serious damage and forcing Ukraine’s energy system to implement power outages across the Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa and Kyiv regions.

In an attack aimed at millions of Ukrainians simply wanting to celebrate the holy day, russia caused serious damage to DTEK thermal generation facilities.

It is the 13th attack against the energy system this year and the 10th targeting DTEK power stations. The previous attack was on 13th December.

DTEK teams are assessing the damage and working to restore power as quickly as possible. We have no indications of any casualties at DTEK facilities at this point.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, DTEK thermal power plants have endured over 200 missiles, drone and artillery strikes.

  • Update on attack:
With deep sorrow, we announce that our colleague Dmytro Petlenko, a power engineer at DTEK Energy, was killed in today's russian missile attack on our thermal power plant.

Dmytro devoted over 30 years to Ukraine's energy sector. After the occupation of Energodar, where he worked at Zaporizhzhia TPP, he relocated to continue his vital work at another DTEK facility, powering Ukrainian homes for the past 1.5 years.

Dmytro Petlenko, a power engineer at DTEK Energy
This is a devastating loss for DTEK and Ukraine's entire energy sector. A dedicated professional, Dmytro represented the unwavering spirit of Ukrainian energy workers who keep our country powered despite all odds.

Our hearts are with Dmytro's family. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.
