DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko has joined thousands of global business leaders to support the advancement of equality between women and men by signing the Statement of Support for the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). A joint initiative by UN Women and the United Nations Global Compact, WEP establishes seven principles for empowering women in the workplace and in society.
Seven principles, based on real business practices, are designed to support companies in reviewing existing, or creating new, policies and practices in order to empower and strengthen the role of women in business and global development.
“For the first time, Ukraine has joined the United Nations Global Compact's international Target Gender Equality program, which involves over 35 countries this year. Our objective is to raise corporate awareness of the importance of women's leadership in business and demonstrate the benefits of balanced teams. To speak with foreign partners in the same language, Ukrainian businesses need to follow global trends of expanding women's economic rights and women's leadership in business. We were pleased to have received an active response from Ukrainian companies on this issue as soon as the program was announced. Throughout the year, we will work to create an ongoing stream of responsible businesses in the field of gender equality”, – said Tatiana Sakharuk, UN Global Compact Ukraine Chief Executive Director.
“By signing the Statement of Support for the Women's Empowerment Principles, DTEK subscribes to the idea of gender equality and the fight against stereotypes. We believe that each team member deserves equal opportunities to achieve their professional goals. This approach promotes new ideas, attracts talents, and drives innovations and creative solutions. As a result, our company is working towards shaping a progressive, prosperous society”, said Maxim Timchenko, DTEK CEO.
Last year, DTEK announced its new 2030 Strategy, which is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and adheres to the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles. As a responsible business, DTEK has incorporated 12 out of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals into its ESG strategy. Namely, SDG 5, which espouses equal conditions for all and the development of each employee irrespective of their gender identity.
DTEK supports the principles of sustainable development and has been a member of the United Nations Global Compact since 2007. In 2010, the company joined the Global Compact Alliance in Ukraine.
