DTEK is observing a Day of Mourning after a russian drone attack on a bus carrying miners on Sunday killed 12 people and injured 16, nine of them seriously.
The bus was transporting miners home after the end of their shift in Dnipropetrovsk region when two drones hit the bus at around 3pm local time.
The attack is the largest single loss of life of DTEK employees since russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022.
DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko described the strike as “an unprovoked terrorist attack on a purely civilian target, for which there can be no justification”.
“This attack is one of the darkest days in our history. Passengers onboard were civilians, simply doing their job to provide heat and light for a nation surviving the coldest winter in years.
“DTEK teams are working with emergency services on the ground in Dnipropetrovsk region to ensure the injured, and families who have lost loved ones, get all the care and support they need. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
Overnight on Sunday, russia launched a further attack, this time on a DTEK coal facility near the site of the bus bombing. The enemy damaged buildings at the site, but no employees were injured.
