The geographical coverage of the competition has been expanded in 2021, allowing projects with an inclusive component to be submitted.
As a socially responsible company and a leader in the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles implementation in Ukraine, DTEK has traditionally invested funds in the "Your Hometown Begins with You" mini-grants project.
"Your Hometown Begins with You" is a DTEK grant competition aimed at enhancing communities and developing cooperation among residents, businesses and local governments. The project is based on ESG principles and is consistent with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The competition is aimed at encouraging local residents to upgrade social infrastructure. Everyone has the opportunity to apply for a community improvement project, after which the competition committee will determine which projects will be awarded funding. The total amount awarded for each individual grant may be as much as UAH 80,000.
The "Your Hometown Begins with You" project has been running since 2013 in the regions where DTEK Energy's business is represented. This year, the initiative was also supported by DTEK Oil&Gas and DTEK Renewables businesses. A total of 32 communities in 11 regions of Ukraine are eligible to participate in the competition.
For the first time, the project is focusing on creating an accessible and inclusive environment in a broad sense. It involves the development of accessible social infrastructure for people with disabilities and socially disadvantaged populations.
"Your Hometown Begins with You" stimulates the development of the cities and regions in which the companies of DTEK Group operate. The company has been a reliable partner for local communities since 2013. Meanwhile, approximately 1,500 projects were implemented as part of the competition. This year, the project's geographical coverage has expanded to cover DTEK Oil&Gas and DTEK Renewables, which means that we can support and implement more projects with communities. This year's initiatives are particularly focused on accessibility. DTEK has joined the First Lady’s "Business without barriers" initiative, and we suggest that participants pay attention to the creation of a barrier-free, accessible and comfortable environment, taking European standards into account. Our mission is to strive for social progress and prosperity. Such initiatives are our contribution to the development of Ukraine,” commented Dmytro Sakharuk, Executive Director at DTEK.
As a socially responsible company interested in sustainable regional development, DTEK supports projects aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of regions and improving the quality of life in cities. Since 2013, DTEK has invested UAH 19.5 billion in sustainable development.
