In a recent interview with BBC Sounds, Dmytro Sakharuk, Executive Director of DTEK, provided a stark assessment of the damage to Ukraine's energy system following devastating russian missile and drone attacks.

"The situation is very serious. The level of damage is enormous," Sakharuk stated.

He explained that all of Ukraine's thermal power plants have been damaged, with many units completely destroyed or very significantly damaged by the russian strikes.

To address this crisis, Sakharuk outlined four key priorities:

  1. Provide air defence systems to protect Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure.
  2. Supply ammunition for the existing air defence systems.
  3. Facilitate the available use of equipment from old power plants that exist in Europe.
  4. Secure funds to purchase new equipment that may not be available from dismantled old plants.
