During russia’s armed attack on Ukraine, light and the infrastructure that makes it possible have gained special importance. Light became not just a means of ensuring vital needs of Ukrainians, but a symbol of resistance, hope and faith in victory.
Each restoration of power to Ukrainian towns and villages has its own story of heroism. The energy workers had to become true warriors of the energy front – a front that is no less dangerous than the military one.
Over the course of a year of full-scale war from February 2022 to March 2023, more than 30 massive missile and drone attacks have been launched on the energy system of Ukraine, destroying or damaging power stations, tens of thousands of kilometers of grids, thousands of transformer substations, and leaving millions of Ukrainians throughout Ukraine without light.
However, Ukrainian energy workers did not let the enemy plunge us into darkness. Every time, they professionally and bravely restored power to homes of Ukrainians, sometimes risking their lives, thus restoring faith that Ukraine will endure and win. This was the case a year ago – in April 2022.
