The Power Summit 2022 took place in Brussels on 15-16 June, a must-visit event for European energy leaders to share ideas and joint plans for the future. DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko spoke at the final panel discussion with the CEOs of Europe's largest energy companies.

One of the main topics of this year's Power Summit was russia’s war against Ukraine, has put Europe’s energy security at the top of the political agenda. As a result, the issue of decarbonization has become even more acute, which should accelerate sharply.

“Geopolitical order changed on February 24th, putting an end of European energy naivety. I believe that now everyone realizes that it was a mistake to think that geopolitics and energy are not interconnected. EU, Ukraine, we all live in a new reality, and now the most urgent question is how to get rid of overdependence on russian energy sources and how Europe can cut such an unreliable partner off. Ukraine is a part of the solution. Within three weeks since the start of the war, Ukraine has managed to synchronize its grids with the EU, which is a great achievement for both parties. Ukraine has enormous opportunities to develop renewables that we could export to the EU that is fully in line with the EU's clean energy policies.” - said Maxim Timchenko in his speech.

The participants also discussed the experience of Ukraine in ensuring the stable operation of the energy sector. In addition, they talked about the areas of support that Europe should now provide to Ukraine and its energy sector.

"First of all, the outstanding bravery and devotion of civilians, who daily rebuild critical energy infrastructure with high risk to their lives - is a significant contribution to the stable operation of the Ukrainian power grid. From a technical point of view, a vital factor is the diversification and decentralization of the power system and its capacity. Finally, is the synchronization of energy systems with European ones, especially the opportunity for commercial exports and imports of electricity, which should be increased, "- added Maxim Timchenko.

The Power Summit, annual conference, is where leaders of the European power sector and top decision-makers come together to exchange ideas and discuss the game-changing solutions needed for policy, technology, finance, and people.
