Over the past 24 hours, the Luhanska TPP, near the demarcation line in the city of Schastye, has been under constant shelling. A fire has broken out at the TPP, damaging the communications transformer. Due to the shelling, the fire cannot be localized. The buildings of the educational campus and oxygen station, and units №10 and №15, have also been damaged.
At the moment, the employees who are critically important for the operation of the TPP remain at the plant. They have, however, been evacuated to the bomb shelter. Everybody else is working remotely.
Applications for a ceasefire, to restore power lines and energy supply to the residents of Schastye and nearby settlements of Luhansk region, were submitted this morning. Unfortunately, the situation remains critical.
At present, serious threat to the lives and health of the TPP’s employees remains. Luhanska TPP is at risk of stopping operation without the possibility of resumption.
It is the largest producer of electricity in the Luhansk region and the only producer of thermal energy in the city of Schastye. Strategic enterprises and critical infrastructure facilities, including schools, kindergartens, medical institutions and so on, all depend on the power station, and it provides heat and electricity to the city’s residents.
Luhanska TPP’s on-going operation is critically important.
