On November 3-4, 2021, EIT InnoEnergy held The 9th Business Booster. This annual international networking event took place in Berlin often referred to as European capital of startups. DTEK supported the event for the second time.

The Business Booster (TBB) is a leading international event showcasing 150 cutting edge sustainable energy technologies under one roof. This massive event is organized by EIT InnoEnergy that was established in 2010, and is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and funded by the European Union. Each year TBB event rotates among European capital cities, which have been included Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Paris. EIT InnoEnergy has been organizing the event for 9 years now. This year, the innovative community gathered in Berlin.

“As The Business Booster 2021 serves as the meeting place for innovators from all over the world for the first time in two years, we could not be headed to a better and more symbolic place for the re-building of businesses and economies through innovation and sustainability,” the organizers noted. Since the German reunification in 1990, the decades that followed have been defined by re-building and innovating. Berlin is now Germany’s startup capital and one of the most inclusive and diverse startup ecosystems.

The event was opened by EIT InnoEnergy’s CEO Diego Pavía and the Innovation Director Elena Bou followed by the keynote message by Vice President of European Commission Maroš Šefčovič.

“We need to accelerate investment into clean energy such as renewables and hydrogen as well as smart and sustainable stationary energy storage solutions and batteries. The question we must now ask ourselves is where we should focus our efforts to bring this change. We need a stable and predictable regulatory framework. Rapid adoption and implementation of ‘Fit for 55’ package will be key to putting Europe on the right track towards climate neutrality by 2050,” Šefčovič said during his speech.

TBB included live panel debates and roundtables, interactive startup pitching sessions and product display area ‘Tomorrow’s innovations today’ that showcased new exponential and disruptive technologies such as hydrogen and energy storage systems. DTEK has been partnering with EIT InnoEnergy for three years now, and became the Ecosystem Sponsor of TBB 2021.

“EIT InnoEnergy is a true innovation engine in sustainable energy. It is a great honour for us to have such partner, and support TBB 2021 here in Berlin. We at DTEK clearly understand that this is a right place to be as our goals and the tools we use match perfectly with EIT InnoEnergy. Since 2018, Innovation DTEK team has reviewed 2258 innovative solutions, launched 43 pilot projects and scaled 12 of them in 7 DTEK businesses. All our pilot projects meet the UN Global Goals. Every single participant booth that we have seen here at TBB specifies the Sustainable Development Goals that the solution or product meets as well. Moreover, EIT InnoEnergy has already assessed 5000 innovative cases and boosted 300 innovative products in the market. TBB is an important milestone for the development of the global innovative ecosystem,” commented DTEK Chief Innovation Officer Emanuele Volpe.
