On October 21st, DTEK’s CEO spoke during the 43rd OECD Round Table on Sustainable Development “Foot on the gas? Maintaining momentum for net-zero while responding to the war in Ukraine”.
Mr. Timchenko said “I am grateful to the OECD for your active engagement with Ukraine’s National Recovery Plan at the Lugano conference in July. I welcome the recent OECD opening of accession discussions with Ukraine. I believe that the OECD will be one of many stakeholders to support Ukraine’s recovery, reconstruction and reform.”
Mr. Timchenko also talked about the urgent needs of Ukrainian energy companies and how he urges international donors and partners to do their best to help Ukraine keep providing electricity and heat. Ukraine needs critical equipment to rebuild damaged energy assets. DTEK is still optimistic about the future of the energy sector: “Speaking about the future - as the largest RES investor in Ukraine, we have not given up on our decarbonization plans by 2040. russia’s unprovoked war illustrated the great importance of energy independence for the security and peace of the European continent. russia is blackmailing the whole world with its nuclear weapons and is actively exploiting other countries' fossil fuels dependence. I believe that we should speed up our decarbonization plans. DTEK is promoting the idea to build new generation capacities in Ukraine to achieve 30 GW of renewables by 2030. The investments could be enabled by equity guarantees provided by EU governments and IFIs.” – Mr. Timchenko said.
