Ukrainian Energy System Passed the First Anniversary of Early Synchronization with the European Energy System

On March 16, the Ukrainian energy system passed the first anniversary of its early connection to ENTSO-E, the energy system of continental Europe.

Thanks to the synchronization, Ukraine strengthened its energy security and broke all ties with the aggressor's megawatts. The synchronization enabled the electricity export to Europe during the periods of electricity surplus, thus reducing its dependence on the Russian energy carriers and supporting the Ukrainian energy sector liquidity at the height of the war. Amidst the enemy's mass attacks on the power infrastructure facilities, it also reduced the electricity deficit thanks to its export. It helped the country pass the hardest winter ever.

"Connection to ENTSO-E has become an existential choice of Ukraine. There was no alternative to it. Ukraine moves towards Europe and strives to become a full-fledged member of the European Union. Today, our army stands for the European values: freedom, democracy, and right to independence. That is why, the connection to the united energy system of continental Europe was vitally necessary, especially amidst russia's full-scale aggression", Maxym Timchenko, CEO of DTEK, emphasized.
