International Anti-Сorruption Day 2024

Home page International Anti-corruption Day 2024
Introduction

On December 9th, the world observes International
Anti-Corruption Day — a reminder of the importance of transparency and ethics in all areas of our lives.

For DTEK Group, this day is an opportunity to once again emphasize our commitment to the principle of zero tolerance for corruption in any form.

On this occasion, the leaders of the DTEK Group share their vision of the importance of conducting transparent and honest business, the dangers of corruption risks, and DTEK's approaches to combating corruption.

  • Maxim Timchenko

    Chief Executive Officer

Ten years ago, thousands of young Ukrainians took to the streets of central Kyiv in the Euromaidan protests to demand freedom and an end to corruption. Ever since, the fight against corruption has been a defining theme in our efforts to build a new Ukraine. Today, our public institutions are stronger and public trust is growing.

However, an urgent challenge now lies ahead. Ukraine, and shattered industries like energy, will only successfully rebuild from war by securing many billions in foreign aid and investment. And that is only possible if the international community has complete confidence in our fight against corruption.

DTEK is 100% committed to this fight. We uphold the highest standards of transparency and responsible corporate governance to be a trusted partner for governments and international financial institutions.

9th December marks International Anti-Corruption Day, a moment to reflect on the global fight against corruption since the United Nations adopted the Convention Against Corruption in 2003. This landmark agreement laid the foundation for the international anti-corruption framework that we follow today.

At DTEK, we are committed to ethical business practices and combating corruption across all areas of our work. Our anti-corruption efforts include carefully assessing corruption risks among business partners, managing conflicts of interest, identifying processes vulnerable to corruption, and implementing measures to mitigate those risks. We also provide employees with access to our corporate Trust Line and ensure their safety and protection from retaliation when raising concerns.

Today, I wish to recognise the vital role played by DTEK’s Compliance Officers. This dedicated team has developed and maintains a robust corruption risk management system, guided by laws, international standards, and best practices. Their work is crucial to safeguarding our business, ensuring we operate transparently, and meeting the expectations of our partners, investors, and donors.

Transparency and integrity are central to everything we do at DTEK. These values not only protect us from compliance risks but also build trust and ensure the sustainability of our operations. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our Compliance Service team, DTEK continues to strengthen its reputation as a responsible and dependable partner.

For DTEK Energy, honesty and transparency have been, are and will remain two values that unite and give us the strength to move forward.

We aim to develop compliance culture and counter the challenges of corruption at all levels of management and in all our enterprises: thermal power plants, machine-building plants and coal mines. We strive to ensure safe working conditions, healthcare and adherence to high standards of ethics and compliance.

DTEK has also implemented a regular assessment of the corruption risk of certain high-risk transactions involving third parties. This is not a mere formality – it is our sincere desire to create an environment where every employee, business partner or client can feel confident and protected.

Through these efforts, we are building not just a business, but a community based on corporate ethics and mutual respect. We are convinced that the trust of our business partners, authorities, and communities is the foundation of development of both DTEK Energy and the whole industry.

DTEK Grids consistently strengthens its reputation as an ethical business, and regardless of circumstances, always remains true to its values. We are confident that corruption is a destructive phenomenon that has no place in our business. The principles of transparency, accountability, and trust define our relationships with both clients and employees. During the current year, we have systematically worked to make corruption impossible.

For our clients, we developed power outage schedules and ensured 24/7 equal access to information through chatbots, distribution system operator websites, external media resources, and applications (including Kyiv Digital), enabling each client to quickly obtain necessary data.

To reduce human factor influence, this year we expanded website functionality, allowing meter-related services to be ordered directly from personal accounts.

Moreover, we are working on a convenient settlement service to eliminate intermediaries in client interactions, launching an "Online Distribution Agreement for Corporate Clients" service.

In the context of process automation, our specialists were the first among DTEK companies to participate in an automated solution developed by the DTEK Compliance Service for assessing conflict of interest and corruption risks for job candidates. This approach made the hiring process faster, more convenient for our employees, and more attractive for candidates at DTEK Grids.

We believe that success and sustainable development in today's challenging environment can only be achieved through unwavering commitment to the highest ethical standards and zero tolerance for corruption.

CEO, MODUS X

In the IT sector, where trust and reliability play a crucial role, even the slightest hint of corruption can have serious consequences. Companies involved in corrupt practices risk significant fines, lawsuits, and other legal sanctions.

For MODUS X, as one of DTEK's leading participants in the international market, adherence to compliance standards is particularly important. As a company that ensures the resilience of IT infrastructure and business processes for the entire organization, compliance with these standards is one of its core principles. Corruption inevitably leads to a loss of trust and, like a cancer, destroys the company from within, ultimately risking the collapse of even the most successful businesses.

To ensure transparency and competitiveness in processes, MODUS X actively promotes the digitalization of operational activities across departments. This not only reduces the risk of corruption but also demonstrates, through actions rather than words, our zero-tolerance approach to corruption.

Tetiana Shyshlowa
CEO, DTEK Service

For DTEK Service, anti-corruption measures mean fostering a culture of integrity and accountability within the company. The collaborative efforts of employees and managers at all levels, coupled with adherence to internal compliance rules, enhance the transparency of our business operations and reaffirm the company's zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

Corruption is one of the main obstacles to the effective and high-quality provision of service offerings. When corruption infiltrates a system, it undermines partners' trust, leads to inefficient use of resources, and increases the company’s costs.

Our company operates on the principles of honesty, transparency, and openness with clients and partners, adhering to the necessary anti-corruption measures to ensure a high level of service quality and create favorable conditions for the growth of large-scale business.
