As a business with a clear sustainability ambition, DTEK is at the very center of the energy transition in Ukraine. War has made this transition more challenging, but also more urgent: highlighting the advantages of renewables as a more secure form of generation.
DTEK is Ukraine's largest investor in renewable energy projects. Our renewables-focused subsidiary in Ukraine, DTEK Renewables , started life in 2008 with a plan to invest in and develop new renewable energy projects in the country. Since then, the business has built 1.1 GW of solar and wind power generation, the most of any company in Ukraine, investing €1.4 billion. The Tyligulska Wind Power Plant (WPP), which was built in the first year of war just 100km from the frontline, already provides 114 MW of capacity and will provide 500 MW after phase two – saving 1.3 million tons of CO 2 each year.
Ukraine's future lies inside Europe. As the country becomes ever more integrated, our ambition is to support Europe's green ambitions as well. Our EU renewables subsidiary, DTEK Renewables International (DRI) is working at pace to deliver solar, wind and battery storage projects in under-served markets such as Romania, Poland, Croatia, and Italy. DRI expects to deliver 5GW of solar and wind projects across its portfolio by 2030 including via its Ruginosa windfarm and Glodeni solar park, which generate a combined annual electricity output of 225,000 MWh.
