This year's World Economic Forum opened on 25 January in the changed format of an online special forum under the title of Davos Agenda.
DTEK members participated in the Davos Agenda 2021 and took notes, so we present key messages from statements and most interesting debates.
Please follow us and stay in tune and the same context with global thinkers and economists.
The opening session of the Forum
Klaus Schwab
Schwab is a Swiss economist, the founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum in Davos
- 2021 will be the decisive year for our future. We have a chance to feel more secure thanks to the vaccination.
- This year gives us the best chances to restructure our economies. However, we should do this in such a way as to make our economies and our societies more resilient, inclusive and sustainable.
- Step 1 is to restore confidence and obviously reboot global economic cooperation.
- Step 2 is to ascertain that all countries possess opportunities to have a better and more positive future. All the stakeholders: Governments, businesses, the public and especially the young generation.
- The Davos Agenda will focus on 5 key topics:
- We will be the providers of responsible industrial transformations. And this will become possible only if businesses will take stakeholder capitalism as a rule. Businesses should not limit themselves to reaching short-dated objectives of their shareholders; they should be at the same time social organisms serving people, the planet and the society.
- We should strengthen global governance and make carbon neutrality a global goal. Businesses should also make strong commitments in this regard.
- We must engineer fair economic and social systems. The main point here is to take care of those who suffer, especially due to the COVID-19 crisis. We have to create decent jobs for everyone if we strive to make our societies more exclusive.
- The pandemic has proven once again the importance of new technologies. However, such technologies should serve benign purposes for the benefit of society and people in the first instance.
- The establishment of a new multilateral system which would comply with the requirements of the 21st century.
- 2021 is of paramount importance for building trust. Trust is not produced out of dialogues and exchanges only. Truth is born when our hearts speak.
- * Stakeholders is the term to define all those interested in something. Business stakeholders are implied in this context, i.e. people, governments, business partners, civil society, future generations, nature and ecology.
David Adjaye
The winner of the 2021 Annual Crystal Award (founded by WEF).
He is a modern British architect, the lead architect to design the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C., USA. He is Ghanaian by birth.
- Architecture is a powerful tool for transformations.
- Equality is the product of fairness in all aspects of life. Such desire may seem romantic a bit, but at the same time, it's an aggressive one. Maybe that's why I strive to eliminate, in my architectural designs, structures and forms that establish control and restrictions.
- Each of us should have a moral compass within. Each of us has it different, but exactly this difference reflects human characters.
- In my understanding, success is achieving the best result under the specific circumstances of each individual. It is being absolutely the best in everything you are involved in. (We here in DTEK say the same thing!)
- The humankind has achieved so much, and its development has been so fabulous! Still, we are now in a situation where we have to do a lot more, become even better than we are now.
- It's time to make a humane world out of an egocentric one.
Sebastião Salgado
The winner of the 2021 Annual Crystal Award (founded by WEF).
He is a Brazilian documentary photographer and photojournalist. He visited over 120 countries while working on his photography projects. He is noted for his social documentary photography. Salgado is now a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
- You need time to understand others. It is particularly important for social photography. Actors or actresses do not pose for my photos. My purpose is to recreate the whole story of life in a fraction of a second in a picture.
- I've seen the humankind in its uttermost extremities such as poverty, war and even slavery.
- Our society should not cherish intellectual or material values. The primordial values, those that each of us was taught of by his or her mother, are genuine human values. Our mothers do not teach us egoism. It's not a value.
- Humanism is the greatest virtue of a leader.
- Hope gives us inspiration for a better life. And for me, hope is the most elevated of all feelings.
