Latitude Media correspondent Bianca Giacobone has published an analysis of Ukraine's strategic shift toward distributed energy resources, highlighting DTEK's innovative approach to grid modernisation amid the ongoing war.
The article emphasises Ukraine's transition from centralised power generation to a more resilient, decentralised system. As the country works to rebuild its energy infrastructure, DTEK is leading the way in implementing cutting-edge solutions, including digital twins and smart meters.
"Conventional, large coal thermal generation with huge power stations, with three or four gigawatts of capacity, is not for the future," said Serhii Zuiev, Chief Financial Officer of DTEK Grids. "The overall trend for the transition is the exploration and development of renewables, and most importantly of distributed energy."
DTEK Grids has made significant progress in developing a digital twin of the distribution grid in the Kyiv region, having already digitised approximately 3,000 kilometers of power lines and 1,500 power facilities over the past year. The company's comprehensive digitalisation strategy includes plans to install up to 5 million smart meters within the next five years, further enhancing grid resilience and efficiency.
