DTEK is sponsoring the Ukrainian translation and publication of Pulitzer Prize-winner Daniel Yergin "The New Map". Daniel Yergin is an American economist and Vice Chairman of IHS Markit, known as the author of bestsellers in the oil and gas industry. The New World Map appeared in English in 2020 and was named USA Today Book of the Year.
In his book, Daniel Ergin describes how geopolitics, energy transformations and climate change will determine the future of our planet and what a new map of the world will look like in the near future. Analysing the past and extrapolating it to the future, the author gives a comprehensive panorama of large-scale changes that will affect almost every country in the world.
"The development of the energy sector reflects the level and potential of civilisation. Today we are witnessing decisive events on which the future of the world will depend. The race to achieve zero CO2 emissions and not only saving our planet and building a new, greener and cleaner world, but also changing geopolitical spheres of influence has begun. The struggle for natural resources or territories has given way to competition for technology, investment and talent. Ukraine, like no other country or company, cannot avoid this race. Technology is the new ‘fuel’ of development, on which the success of Ukraine's energy transformation will depend, and therefore the place we will occupy in the new world, on a new map," said Maxim Timchenko, CEO of DTEK.
Preparation for the publication of the book in Ukraine started at the beginning of 2021 and now it can be purchased in free access in bookstores across Ukraine and on the website of the publisher, Laboratory. This year, the book will be the publishing house's flagship project. The Laboratory carefully selects and publishes books as rapidly as possible, so Ukrainian readers have early access to the latest ideas. . The book will be available in all possible formats: paper, electronic and audio.
"Each country has its own range of interests in geopolitics, economics and energy. The experience of recent events shows that in a situation of turbulence, despite the talk of globalisation and common interests, everyone is trying to play their game. Daniel Ergin's book describes the current disposition and future development of the world.," said Anton Martinov, founder of the Laboratory.
