DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, has held talks with US, European and other global leaders at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting to push for a halt to russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy system. DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko also met with global investors and energy companies to secure immediate support and to accelerate investment in resilient infrastructure that will strengthen Ukraine’s energy security and secure its long-term prosperity.
In the gravest crisis facing the energy system since the full-scale invasion, russia is systematically destroying heating and power plants, sub-stations and transmission lines in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities and towns. In freezing conditions, russia is using winter to trigger a humanitarian crisis.
DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko said: “russia is not winning on the military frontline so it commits energy terror against ordinary people instead. All DTEK’s resources and efforts are united to minimise the level of suffering for Ukrainians and to prevent a humanitarian crisis. We are now working with the government and international partners to stop attacks as soon as possible.”
Across a three-day agenda, DTEK held meetings with public and private sector organisations and global energy companies ready to provide emergency funding and equipment. At the same time, DTEK also engaged with partners on long-term investment in a fortified system, based on decentralised energy assets.
“Our energy infrastructure is being tested like never before, but we must start building a new system today. With the support of our shareholder Rinat Akhmetov, we are forging a battle-tested system that will drive Ukraine’s reconstruction and eventually lead Europe’s quest for energy independence.
“We met with a number of US and European partners at WEF, who recognise Ukraine’s incredible resilience and energy potential and are looking to invest. We look forward to working with them to combine foreign know-how and capital with DTEK’s local expertise and on-the-ground experience.”
