DTEK meets with international partners at World Economic Forum to halt energy attacks and accelerate rebuilding of damaged system

DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, has held talks with US, European and other global leaders at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting to push for a halt to russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy system. DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko also met with global investors and energy companies to secure immediate support and to accelerate investment in resilient infrastructure that will strengthen Ukraine’s energy security and secure its long-term prosperity.

In the gravest crisis facing the energy system since the full-scale invasion, russia is systematically destroying heating and power plants, sub-stations and transmission lines in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities and towns. In freezing conditions, russia is using winter to trigger a humanitarian crisis.

DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko said: “russia is not winning on the military frontline so it commits energy terror against ordinary people instead. All DTEK’s resources and efforts are united to minimise the level of suffering for Ukrainians and to prevent a humanitarian crisis. We are now working with the government and international partners to stop attacks as soon as possible.”

Across a three-day agenda, DTEK held meetings with public and private sector organisations and global energy companies ready to provide emergency funding and equipment. At the same time, DTEK also engaged with partners on long-term investment in a fortified system, based on decentralised energy assets.

“Our energy infrastructure is being tested like never before, but we must start building a new system today. With the support of our shareholder Rinat Akhmetov, we are forging a battle-tested system that will drive Ukraine’s reconstruction and eventually lead Europe’s quest for energy independence.

“We met with a number of US and European partners at WEF, who recognise Ukraine’s incredible resilience and energy potential and are looking to invest. We look forward to working with them to combine foreign know-how and capital with DTEK’s local expertise and on-the-ground experience.”

  • High level engagements at Davos

DTEK CEO participated in a series of discussions and bilateral meetings with senior leaders and partners including US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, President of EBRD Odile Françoise Renaud-Basso, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu and Director General of EIB Global Andrew McDowell, as well as discussions with global energy CEOs in the WEF Electricity Governors Forum.

  • Convening global partners on Ukraine’s energy future

Together with Naftogaz, DTEK also convened the Fourth Annual Ukrainian Energy Roundtable, bringing together senior government and policymakers, investors and businesses from Ukraine, Europe and the United States to discuss urgent energy security needs and the role of private investment in Ukraine’s recovery.

The discussion featured contributions from Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine and Chrystia Freeland, Advisor on Economic Development to President Zelenskyy alongside senior Ukrainian government representatives including Taras Kachka, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and Oleksii Sobolev, Minister for Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
