Unique Reconstruction of a Power Generating Unit: Ukrainian Specialists Lifted a Turbine Part of over 100 tons
06 August, 2008
Donetsk, 06 August, 2008. – In course of the reconstruction of power generating unit No.5, Kurakhovskaya TPP completed a complicated process dismantling and lifting a lower part of a low pressure cylinder of the turbine that weighs over 100 tons.
The modernization of the turbine and of the low pressure cylinder (LP cylinder) in particular provides for the inspection of this component, which makes it necessary to lift and examine the cylinder sliding system. Previously, such tasks were carried out only once in Ukraine in the course of the reconstruction of power generating unit No. 4 at Starobeshevskaya TPP.
The Head of the Operational Analysis and Development of Vostokenergo Ltd., Viktor Bychik, underlines that such tasks are unique in terms of their sophistication and require a high qualification of the personnel.
Since 1 July, Kurakhovskaya TPP has been carrying out a comprehensive reconstruction of the equipment at unit No. 5, which includes the modernization of the turbine LP cylinder, the turbine regulation system, the modernization of the boiler, generator, feeding pump, transformer as well as the electric precipitator and unit control system.
The amount of investment for the modernization of the unit is over USD 30m.
The unit is expected to be commissioned in December this year. According to the schedule, throughout the period when the unit is un-used, the equipment will be dismantled, assembled, set up and then re-commissioned.
