Donbass Fuel-Energy Company: Energy of Growth. Results of H1 2008. Production

Kiev, 29 July 2008. – According to the results of the 1st half of 2008, DTEK keeps its leading position in the coal and energy sector of Ukraine. The Company’s share was 27.8% in total thermal coal output, 27.3% in thermal generation and 6.5% in electricity distribution.
The positive dynamics are observed for all key performance indicators of DTEK's coal production sector. Thermal coal production has increased by 9.2% and totaled 7.0 million ton. Implementation of investment programmes, optimization of business processes, introduction of operational improvements and use of advanced technologies (roof bolting and combined arch supports/roof bolting) enabled an increase in the coal production level at DTEK companies in January-June 2008 by 14.8% (8.7 million ton) compared with the same period of 2007.
In October 2007, two coal enrichment plants were incorporated into DTEK – Dobropolskaya CEP and Oktyabrskaya CEP. These changes in the organizational structure of the Company and constantly growing market demand aimed at the production of fuel with higher quality enabled a significant increase in the volume of ROM coal enrichment and concentrate output in H1 2008 (compared with the same period of 2007) by 73.9% (to 5.9 million ton) and 75.3% ( to 4.2 million ton) respectively.
Vostokenergo (energy generating division of DTEK) has supplied about 8.9 TWh of electricity to Energorynok SE according to H1 2008 results, which is 0.7% above the indicator of the corresponding period of 2007. In general, the installed capacity utilization rate (ICUR) in H1 2008 across the Company totaled 55.1%.
In H1 2008, the volumes of electricity transmission to energy supplying companies of DTEK (Service-Invest Ltd and PES-Energougol OJSC) have increased significantly: up to 7.3 TWh, which is 1.9 TWh above the indicator of the corresponding period of 2007. According to the half-year results, the purchase share on the Wholesale Market has increased by 1.8% and made up 6.5% of the total traded electricity supply in Ukraine.

Donbass Fuel-Energy Company (DTEK) is the first private vertically integrated energy company of Ukraine. It is a part of the financial and industrial group System Capital Management (SCM). The enterprises of DTEK build up an efficient operational chain of coal production (Pavlogradugol OJSC, Komsomolets Donbassa Mine OJSC) and enrichment (five enrichment plants), electricity generation (Vostokenergo Ltd.) and distribution (Service-Invest Ltd., PES-Energougol OJSC).
DTEK is the leader in the fuel-energy industry of Ukraine. According to 2007 results, the Company’s share in the Ukrainian coal mining industry was 20.9%; its share in thermal generation was 27.0%, and 5.4% in electricity distribution.
