Starting March 1, 2010, Vostokenergo (DTEK) has terminated electricity exports to its foreign counterparties in the Burshtynskaya TPP Island direction. The decision has been conditioned by the high probability of emergency shutdown of Burshtynskaya TPP due to critically low coal stocks at the power plant.

On March 1, the first in the 2010 series of Energy Round Tables organized by the EU-Ukraine Business Council will take place in Brussels. In 2009, an average electricity Wholesale Market Price (WMP) grew by 22.4% compared to 2008 to UAH407.56 per 1 MWh, the state-run enterprise Energorynok reports in the materials, prepared for the end-of-the-year General Meeting of the Ukraine’s Wholesale Electricity Market Participants. 

Belarus is planning to construct new electricity transmission lines to boost electricity exchanges with Poland and Ukraine, said the Deputy Energy Minister of Belarus, Mikhail Mikhadiuk during an on-line conference on Friday.

National Energy Company ‘Ukrenergo’ sold 250 MW electricity transmission capacities to 2 companies for UAH 2.638 m at the auction for electricity export in February 2010.

Ukrenergo still has not signed contracts with the winners of the auctions for access to cross-border electricity transmission capacities held on 16.12.2009, reported Alexey Magda, the Commercial Director of Vostokenergo LLC, who took part in the auction.

The international rating agency Moody's Investors Service is going to carry out a deeper analysis of the long-term corporate rating (B2) of DTEK Holdings Ltd.

Yesterday, NEC Ukrenergo sold 275 MW of electricity capacity to be exported to Romania, Slovakia and Hungary from the so-called Burshtyn TPP Island by auction. Experts believe that former monopolist, Korlea Invest, will not be able to challenge the auction results.

Nikolay Pashinskiy (Yulia Timoshenko bloc), a member of the Verhovna Rada’s Fuel and Energy Complex Issues Committee, sees signs of corruption in the ruling of Kiev District Administrative Court, which forbade holding of electricity export auctions based on the claim from Korlea Invest Ukraine.

The Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions, Anatoliy Kinakh and Mikhail Chechetov, think that the main reason for blocking an auction for access to the transmission capacity of the cross-border electricity transmission networks for electricity exports is corruption in courts and competition abuse.
